We all want to have a clean home. Clean homes make us feel happy, healthy, and safe. But we all detest cleaning, right? Right! It is one of our most disliked chores. Because of that, even when we force ourselves to clean, we do it quickly and partially. We clean only the screamingly dirty areas and leave out all the rest. However, when we leave all those other areas, they become zones filled with dust, dirt, grime, mold, and who knows what.
Don’t allow this to happen! It can compromise your health. Instead, try to be thorough when cleaning your house. And, try not to miss out on those most overlooked areas that need regular cleaning. 1. Baseboards
One of the most overlooked areas that need regular cleaning has to be baseboards. When vacuuming our carpets, mopping our floors, or even doing an effective spring cleaning and organizing, we often forget about baseboards. But, we mustn’t – they collect the same dust and dirt as our floors!
If you never cleaned your baseboards before, they probably changed their color. No, this is not because they’ve aged. It is because they are dirty. Just take a microfiber cloth and some all-purpose cleaning solution and start scrubbing. You will see that once you remove the dirt, the baseboard’s natural color will appear again.
You mustn’t forget about your baseboards if you want your entire home to be clean.
2. Lighting Fixtures
We cannot discuss the most overlooked areas needing regular cleaning without mentioning the lighting fixtures. And, by lighting fixtures, we mean all of them – chandeliers, ceiling fans, pendants, floor&table lamps, etc. These are the areas we never clean. But, they are severe collectors of dust and dirt. Sometimes, the dust and the dirt accumulated on them can block the light and make it seem like you have dim lights all over the house. Thus, give these ‘areas’ a good clean once every couple of months – you will be surprised by the results.
Moreover, cleaning your lighting fixtures is a good idea if you plan on moving out of your home. If they are dirty and give the impression of dim lights, your home will not look its best. Moreover, it will not look staged. 3. Knobs, Handles, Switches
In the past, knobs, handles, and switches were also among those most overlooked areas that needed regular cleaning. However, ever since the pandemic hit the entire world, we have learned the importance of having these areas clean. We would clean them after every use.
Nowadays, most of us stopped doing that, but we shouldn’t! All those knobs, handles, and switches are still very dirty. They are collectors of bacteria, fungi, mold, grime, and all sorts of grimy and unsafe things. So, try to clean all these areas once or twice a week. Do this, especially if you have small kids who still like to put ouch everything and put their hands in their mouths. But, in this case, don’t use harsh chemicals! Opt for those safe and natural cleaning products instead.

4. Air Vents
Air vents – areas we never clean. We change the filter seasonally and just leave it be. But, this is not what you should do (if, of course, you want to breathe the fresh air). Air vents tend to collect an incredible amount of dust and allergens. And, if they are not regularly cleaned, all those bad things will spread through the air you breathe. Then, you may find yourself or your loved ones coughing, sneezing, having runny noses and watering eyes, etc. Avoid this – just use a duster and clean your air vents. And, if you have removable filters, take them outside and rinse them under cold water.
Moreover, just like you should have a helping hand when moving, you should also have it when disassembling the air vents and changing the filters of all your ACs. If you don’t have the manual and if you don’t have the experience doing this, you might damage the vent or the filter (or something completely third). So, leave it to the pros! But, while they are getting the job done, don’t stay aside – stay close and see how it’s done. That way, you will know how to clean your air vents next time.

5. Appliances
Your appliances are some of the last but certainly not the least most overlooked areas that need regular cleaning. You know they are dirty. Appliances like stoves, ovens, refrigerators, and microwaves are filled with food leftovers, dirt, and even mold and fungi. If you don’t clean these regularly, these bad things will start to mix up with your food, and sooner or later, you might get food poisoning. Don’t allow this to happen – clean your appliances! Give them a thorough, chemical clean once a month. And use some natural cleaning products to clean them daily (or at least weekly).
